“Super slo-mo” capability on your smartphone camera thanks to this Taiwan company

mediatekThe Taiwan headquartered semi conductor company MediaTek today announced the arrival of Super-Slow Motion Technology, a smartphone camera feature that enables the phones to create 480 frames per second (fps) 1080p full HD videos & playback at 1/16 speed.

MediaTek said in a release that the Super-Slow Motion Technology controls several subsystems that work in concert, beginning with the Sony IMX220, 20.7MP sensor, which is used to capture the videos. The captured high fps videos are then passed through MediaTek’s advanced image processing system, ensuring that each processed frame is of premium quality while displaying the image in excellent clarity & detail.

Additionally, users may edit their videos as much as they like while retaining total control over the duration and location of the Super-Slow Motion segment on the video timeline. Once a Super-Slow Motion video is rendered, users can then easily share it with friends and family.

MediaTek is a market leader in cutting-edge systems on chip for wireless communications & connectivity, HDTV, DVD and Blu-ray. It claims to have created the world’s 1st octa-core smartphone platform with LTE & its CorePilot technology. The company claims to be creating a worldwide ecosystem in support of device creation, application development & services based around MediaTek offerings.
