Pop is a newly launched mobile app that enables users to “visually” tell a joke or story. Users simply need to capture a video or photo on their phone cameras, & then add Online media like a movie snippet or animated GIF to it. That becomes a Pop. To see the whole Pop, the end-user needs to press down on it & hold down to view the underlying GIF.
Simple to set up, Pop is helpful in delivering a punch line as well as to tell meaningful stories. The app combines both visual & social storytelling. You can share the Pop you create with contacts in the app as well as with outside contacts like on social network Facebook, or by emailing, texting or tweeting a link.
Pop is a product of the team that earlier created Zeega which is a similar platform for telling interactive digital stories. The major difference is Zeega is meant for laptops while Pop has been designed for mobiles.
Pop can be used as a social sharing app to create & to continue visual conversations. The creators of Pop say they were stimulated by how Netizens use memes, GIFs, movie scenes and other media to express their feelings about personal & public issues. They felt visual stories & conversations had their own charm & appeal that was fundamentally different from bland text interaction.
Pop lets you record real-world scenes on your mobile & combine them with Online media to create interesting visual stories. Users can utilize the vast GIF library of a provider named Giphy to add a relevant GIF to their photo or video. This stock of available GIFs is updated constantly to ensure the images are trending & timely.
The creators of Pop are based in San Francisco, Brooklyn & Oakland in California. The app was released earlier this month. The parent company Zeega Inc. says it’s now working on the Android version of the app.
