Women likey to use Pinterest 5 times more than men in the US

Of those who use the Internet in the US, 67 percent log in to social network Facebook. A research report released by analytical firm Pew Internet also says while Twitter & Pinterest following grew, blogging platform Tumblr was not that popular. Suprisingly, the research has not taken Google+ in the reckoning.

Posterous Spaces to go

This is some real sad news for blogger, we must say. Blogging platform Posterous Spaces has decided to shut down. A notice to the effect has been published on it’s own blog by Founder & CEO Sachin Agarwal. Folks may remember that Posterous has been bought over a year or so ago by micro-blog Twitter. It had been launched in 2008. The plug will be pulled on April 30 this year.

Facebooks says it was hacked

 The world’s number one social media network Facebook has admitted that is was hacked some time last month. A blog post by FB said Facebook Security had discovered that its systems had been targeted in a ‘sophisticated attack’. FB has added that as far as it was aware, there was no compromise of users’ data. This attack occurred when a handful of employees visited a mobile developer website that was compromised, was the explanation given. The social network added it had taken corrective steps.

Opera Software to buy rival

Opera Software has announced it will be buying rival Skyfire Labs in a deal that online  reports suggest could be above US $150 million.

The Mountain View, California, USA-based Skyfire has software that allows carriers to deliver optimized video & other content to mobile devices. “Opera and Skyfire are a natural fit,” Opera CEO Lars Boilesen said in a statement. “Both companies have evolved far beyond their browser roots. Skyfire adds capabilities to our portfolio around video, app optimization, smartphones and tablets, and strength in North America.

More problems for Apple’s iOS 6.1?

Apple’s bag of woes just had something new added to it. There are Online reports filtering in that a new security flaw discovered in Apple’s recently releases software iOS 6.1 enables anyone to bypass an iPhone’s lockscreen, granting them access to a series of core device functions. Apparently, it was first spoken of onYouTube, & then the complaints started pouring in.

Opera reaches new milestone

Opera Software today announced reaching the milestone of 300 million monthly users across all its browser products on phones, Tablets, TVs & computers.

“300 million marks the first lap, but the race goes on,” says Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software. “On the final stretch up to 300 million users, we have experienced the fastest acceleration in user growth we have ever seen. Now, we are shifting into the next gear to claim a bigger piece of the pie in the smartphone market.”
