Intently

Wherever you are, shout out for a service and you shall be served

How many times, just how many times have all of us tried to get a service or tried to contact a service provider & failed. Got a leaky faucet, you try a plumber but are put off by the fact that, well, he does not do “small jobs”. Or tried to buy insurance but have been put on hold by unhelpful employees?

The idea behind this new search engine Intently came just like that one day to its founder Neil Harris, who was looking around for an optician but did not have the energy of plodding through 100 websites. That’s how Intently.co was formed in September 2012.

Intently is positioned as a global “intention engine”. It serves as a platform to bring together suppliers or providers of a service & clients or consumers. It essentially works on what is known as “broadcasting ” – letting people know what you want. On this new Internet startup, such broadcasts by users are positioned as “shouts”. So you post a shout, say for an architect or a designer, & within the hour, they shall respond to you.

You can use Intently to notify the following people of your needs:

  • Relevant people registered on Intently as suppliers
  • Relevant people found on the Internet
  • Your friends on Facebook

This new search engine essentially acts as a broker between buyers & providers. It leaves the task of striking the final deal between the two to the parties themselves & does not get involved in that process. So it is a true search engine as such, but only for services.

Service providers can post their services on this new, United Kingdom-registered Internet startup, too. So under the ‘Browse’ section, you have all kinds of services listed – waiters in Abu Dhabi, florist in Milan, Home cleaning service in Dubai, & so on. The best part about Intently is that it is a global site & just about anybody anywhere in the world can use its services.

This new search engine may make apps for hotels, restuarants, garages, etc redundant if it becomes popular. Because the way Intently is positioned, it may turn out to be the “mother of all service apps”.
