Wonder PL: A platform for video curation

London-based Wonder PL has launched what it’s calling “the world’s first curated video platform for quality lifestyle content.”

Their USP to make Wonder PL stand apart from the throng is to make it an elite ad-free experience for consumers, while providing professional Content creators with all the tools they need to upload, distribute & monetize high-class video Content.

wonderplpageConsumers are able to access the categorized Content in channels (food, wellness, culture, home & family, mind, & entertainment) much like YouTube, except that all the Content here is curated video & largely sourced from subject matter experts including artists, film makers, authors & designers.

The Food Channel has videos showing five star chefs like Tom Aikens showing you how to make their award-winning dishes.

The channel also features high-profile personalities such as Vogue UK contributing editor Calgary Avensino, who offers tips to “eat well, feel well, live well.” So does Natasha Corrett, author & founder of Honestly Healthy Food.

The entertainment channel has Vevo’s massive collection of music videos from the world’s biggest labels. The Scott Report offers celeb news & interviews from HELLO! TV.

Sofia Fenichell, founder & CEO of Wonder PL, says that as video consumption on the web & on mobile continues to grow at unprecedented rates, they saw an opening for quality lifestyle video content that was being overlooked by traditional players.

Some have called Wonder PL as a competitor to YouTube for curated video but that would be a mistake. This startup is more of a video distribution & marketing channel for professionals who want to reach a target audience.

Content producers have the option of using the free package or upgrading to a premium one at $300 per year that offers more space & monetization options such as click to buy links that allow app users to purchase the goods then & there without leaving the app.

Whether the content is distributed via the free or premium package, the experience is entirely cost-free & ad-free for consumers, who can access content via the web or by using the iOS app on their iPhone or iPad.

Note: Content creators do have the option of offering video on demand through Wonder PL, charging customers for access to videos. The Wonder PL platform, however, is free to access & so is the app.

Fenichell has been quoted elsewhere as saying, “Wonder PL was created to deliver a professional video platform for content creators that makes good business sense, while ensuring an enjoyable experience for consumers. We didn’t think the two had to be mutually exclusive & we are finding out that we were right.”

Wonder PL has the financial support of Universal Music Group, Qualcomm Ventures, VICE Media President & Co-Founder Andrew Creighton, & Pascal Cagni, formerly general manager & VP, Apple Europe, Middle East & Africa.

Auto convert your plain vanilla text message into video with Wordeo

How would it be if we were to tell you of an app that quickly converts your plain text into video? Impossible? Well, Wordeo claims to do this. This newly revamped free video messaging app converts text into videos (thanks to Getty Images) to give that added zing to your plain vanilla text message.

Video messaging is becoming popular thanks to better bandwidth & faster processors. Obviously, Wordeo has decided to capitalize on this wave. This new video messaging app offers a simple method of sending video messages. Users do not have to record or upload any video. Instead, images corresponding to their text are accessed from the video library of Getty Images, which hosts hundreds of thousands of stock video clips. Thus, one can say that Wordeo is more convenient but less creative compared to short video service of Twitter called Vine, which needs Content filmed by users.

Users can can view the video messages in the app & also on Wordeo.com, & share them on social media websites as well as by email.

The name ‘Wordeo’ is a combination of ‘word + video’. The parent company is London- based Wordeo Limited which was founded in September 2012 & has raised a sizeable sum from angel investors.

The company says the Internet is now evolving towards video usage which was the motivation for developing & launching this app. Wordeo’s basic premise seems to be similar to apps such as Vine, Viddy & Instagram for Video.

How Wordeo Works

new video messaging appAll you need to do is click on the ‘Compose’ button & type your text message. The new video messaging app automatically generates clips relevant to the message. The selection from Getty’s video library is done for each word in the text message.

Eg: If your text message refers to a sunny day, the app adds footage of people moving about in a sun-basked street. You get the idea?

If you are the creative type, you can tweak the message by adding your personal video clips to the Content. The app enables shooting of new videos as well, or you may even add previously shot clips saved on your iOS device to your message.

Wordeo’s menu offers 20 fonts as well as different moods & genres of soundtracks. The app automatically generates these components but you can change them to your liking if you wish.

Advertisers are likely to love Wordeo as videos are a familiar terrain for them. But the company intends to initially focus on accumulating user numbers & enhancing user experience before turning its attention to brand advertising on the app.

Wordeo is currently available for iOS devices & is ideal for iPods & iPhones operating on iOS 6 or 7. The parent company is developing an Android version for which you can sign up at wordeo.com. An iPad version has also been planned.

To summarize, Wordeo is a video messaging app that is as simple as tweeting. You can create a video message within 30 seconds & share it by email & on Twitter & Facebook. You can also use the app to connect with your followers & friends.
