Apple hit by malware

Same hacker group that attacked Facebook now targets Apple

The same group of hackers which had attacked social network Facebook were reportedly behind an attempt to get into the servers of Apple,Inc., last week. The company said on Tuesday it was a victim of a malware attack when a small number of systems inside the company were compromised.

The malware attack was tied to a vulnerability in a Java plug-in for browsers, Apple said in a statement sent via email. “There is no evidence that any data left Apple. We are working closely with law enforcement to find the source of the malware,” the statement reads.

Apple was quick to add that it had isolated the infected systems from its network.

The software, which infected Macs by exploiting a flaw in a version of Oracle Corp’s Java software used as a plug-in on Web browsers, is also suspected to be the one used to launch attacks against Facebook.

The malware was also employed in attacks against Mac computers used by “other companies,” Apple said, without elaborating on the scale of the assault.
