Dropbox acquires company that launched Mailbox

Cloud storage company Dropbox has just announced that it had acquired Orchestra, the company that owns email client Mailbox. Our readers may recall that we had featured the new e-mail app on iOS, Mailbox, recently. The financial terms were not disclosed.

Mailbox is still a fairly new app launched just last month on the Apple Store. Mailbox launched with a unique waiting-line system where each user had to wait in a virtual queue before they could start using the app. Dropbox made the acquisition announcement in a blog post today.

Mailbox has a team of 14 people. They will be joining Dropbox once the acquisition is complete. Mailbox will continue to run as an independent app.

Gentry Underwood, Chief Executive Officer, Mailbox, wrote in his blog post: Rather than grow Mailbox on our own, we’ve decided to join forces with Dropbox and built it out together.
