Facebook Home

Facebook launches Home, a 2nd Home screen, on Android phones

True to its adage that it’s all about people, social network Facebook today announced Facebook Home, featuring full screen photos, status updates, & notifications streamed into your Android phone. It will be like a 2nd Home Screen….or the 1st, depending on what you, the user chooses.

Facebook Home launchedAnnouning the launch at its Menolo Park, US HQ FB chief Mark Z. showed off Home to reporters. Home launches on April 12. With Home, you see a steady stream of friends’ posts & photos. Upfront notifications & quick access to your essentials mean you’ll never miss a moment. And you can keep chatting with friends, even when you’re using other apps.

If you have the latest Facebook App & Messenger on your Android phone, you’ll see an alert to download Home from the Google Play store. When you launch it the first time, you will get options – Try Once or Always.

Once you have selected an option, FB Home will start showing you a constant feed of stories & photos you can just sit back and watch. And of course, there’s always the ‘Like’ button for you to press when you love what you are watching. Mark said it will make smartphones more social. We say it will be like being connected to your Facebook account 24X7 on your mobiles, with the network resting right there on the Home screen.

If you do not want Home, you may just swipe it off & launch the apps page.

HTC also used the same platform to launch its newest model, the HTC First. This will be the first-ever smartphone in the world to have Facebook Home. It will be available with AT&T service for US $99.

Facebook will try to make Home available on tablets within a few months. Every month, Facebook will release a Home update to add new features and make it accessible to new devices. You may access it at www.facebookhome.com
