Design your own website from your Facebook Page account

Many of you out there would have by now gotten a website of your own, either for personal use or for your company or brand. Now, how it would be if we were to tell you today that you can design your own website out of your Facebook Page itself, almost automatically.

Yup, there’s a new startup now called Pagevamp that will do it for you. But at the very outset let us alert you that this service will be most useful if your brand/company/firm does not already have a website of its own. All that you have to do then is to contact these guys, key in your FB Page URL, & viola, within minutes have a website based on your FB updates, Contact Us details.

This New York, USA-based new startup took off after the guys who were running Pagevamp as a traditional web design agency realized that most people didn’t know how to create a website themselves & so were hiring them to make it for them, which, they felt, wasn’t the best solution for 2 reasons:

pagevampCharging people money for a site that they didn’t know how to update didn’t seem fair, It was expensive & it was unsustainable. So the idea for creating a site out of your FB Page was born.

Using Pagevamp, claim these guys, you could create a website that is:

  • Easy to create and update
  • Affordable
  • Looks great

There’s a free version & then a paid one which has more features you can avail of. Also, please remember that Facebook Page is different from your personal FB account. The former is used for your company or business account.

Design your own social network, the PeopleBrowsr way

The company that runs Online influence measurement service dotKred, PeopleBrowsr, has decided to launch a “different” type of social network. Well, the idea certainly seems revolutionary  – it is to design & develop your own social network.

Explaining the design your own social network concept, Andrew Grill writes on the official PeopleBrowsr blog: “With public platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, brands and consumers are increasingly being encouraged to use them exclusively to connect and communicate.

“Now that these networks have combined memberships in the billions, it is becoming harder to find those in your community that you have the most in common with and connect with. Brands are naturally investing time and energy into these public platforms, while at the same losing control of their brand, their fans and their community. PeopleBrowsr is launching our SocialOS platform to bridge existing networks, and allow these corporates and governments to develop their own social networks.”

Social OS, as the service is called, is a next generation Platform as a Service (PaaS), developed under a Darpa funded program. It integrates Social Network capabilities & technologies alongside existing customer databases, platforms & social networks. Social OS has a rich set of APIs for Developers to rapidly build Social Network applications.

So what are the advantages of having your personal social network? We think for marketers, Social OS will be quite a helpful tool since they can now invite customers & fans to join their own branded social networks, with app stores & analytics, while bridging existing social networks such as Twitter, Facebook & LinkedIn simultaneously.

Also, as Andrew has written, Social OS analytics may be able to change the otherwise chaotic social data from multiple networks into something more meaningful, allowing more compelling offers & campaigns to be developed exclusively for the brand’s network. The Kred influence measurement platform will also be integrated into Social OS.

For developers, the Social OS platform will be exposed via APIs, periodic reports and a real-time command centre. Each Instance of Social OS will give developers the ability to quickly build social networks & applications using APIs defined in our Social OS Guide.
