This iOS app just killed business cards

‘Intro for iOS: Killing the Business Card’ is a new app for iOS, & claims to be an easy way to exchange or collect information about professionals or business associates when you meet someone new.

All you need to do is add an email & (optionally) key in the location where you met, & you can send a customized introduction within seconds.

When you’re looking up a contact you met some time back, you won’t have to go searching through a mess of business cards. All the contacts you need are right there on your finger tips.

It’s a useful business app, & aims to entirely replace the use of business cards. This also makes it eco-friendly.

When you meet people as part of your networking rounds at events & meetings & collect their business cards, the incident is fresh in your mind & you know the context. But it gets harder over time, & it may be impossible afterwards to connect a particular event or incident with a busienss card after a few months.

It’s all good, but there’s just 1 small problem that this app is facing. The Intro – Killing the Business Card app was launched at the same time as About.me’s app called Intro, which is also about the same thing – getting you to use Intro as an app to replace what you usually do with business cards.

About.me has the advantage of being an established player in this particular market, since their platform offers features like the ability to include a small thumbnail of your About.me profile as an email signature.

But when you have 2 apps named Intro doing the same thing being launched at the same time, it’s an invitation for confusion & undercutting the launch buzz for both of them.

Of course, people are smart enough to decide which of the two Intro apps is better, & the one that’s easier to use with more useful features will start getting more users.

The Intro: Killing the Business Card was developed by San Francisco-based VUE, Inc.
