Online photo editor Polarr’s unusual loyalty program to bring in the flock

new photo editor

Polarr Inc., the company that runs Polarr, a versatile & powerful photo editor that you can use directly from your Web browser, recently launched an unusual loyalty program to reward users.

The Polarr Pixel loyalty program rewards “Polarrians” by unlocking the photo editing tool’s premium features & through tangible gifts such as camera lenses. They’re keeping track through a scoring system of Polarr Pixels that monitors & rewards you for activities & usage of the photo editor.

The more frequently you use Polarr, the more Polarr Pixels you get, which can then be redeemed for virtual & non-virtual gifts, unlocking premium features & a chance to attend real-world events & meetups.

Polarr was founded earlier this year & is now in open beta. There’s no dearth of Online, Cloud-based & downloadable photo editors, but Polarr aims to stand apart by creating a customized tool that learns from your usage & will do things just the way you want. The photo editor comes with an intelligent processing engine called a style manager that learns your usage of the app & habits to follow a unique style for future photo touchups & edits.

All you have to do is create a login & start importing photos that you want to edit by dragging & dropping them into the tool, which can handle even very large jpeg picture files & batch uploads. Exports are likewise as simple as dragging & dropping the retouched pictures to the local storage space on your computer.

You can play around & tweak everything from the exposure & contrast to the clarity, highlights & shadows, curves & distortions, vignettes, local adjustments, & more. You can also add your own watermarks & signatures.

At the moment, the tool is only available as a browser-based photo editor. The tool can be used directly in your browser using their Online photo editor or by adding this extension to your Chrome browser.

The Palo Alto, California, USA-based Polarr Inc. was founded by Standford graduate Borui Wang, who is also the company’s CEO.

Copyright free images for free. It’s true

If we were to tell you that there’s finally a place where you can get copyright free images for free, what would you say? Figment of our imagination? Blatant lies?

Let us assure you, it’s true. Unsplash is a site where you can find copyright free images in all their splendor for use anywhere for free. The site hosts 10 free, high resolution images every 10 days. So, not only do you not have to pay for using them, the images are free of copyright restrictions under a Creative Commons CC0 designation.

Unsplash, launched barely some days ago, was created by ooomf, an online marketplace to attract creative talent for Online projects. If you subscribe to this new startup’s mailing list, you may even receive regular updates on new photos. The uploaded images are dynamic & of superior quality like this one.

All of us who use the Web know how difficult it is to lay our hands on copyright free images. There’s always some hidden clause, or some built-in cost. That is not so in this case.

Unsplash.com is a free image project driven by the Tumblr engine. The creators of all images hosted on Unsplash have waived off all rights. The images are hosted on the Amazon Cloud. We found many of the images to be in the “general” category so if you are, for example, looking for an image for a product or service, this may not be the place for you to be. Nevertheless, it is a good beginning, especially if you are an advertiser or into designing Splash pages.
