Milq, which launched last month after a year of beta tweaks, is gaining momentum as a crowdsourced platform for curated Content.
In their own words, the Milq team says it’s a “new way to find & experience amazing creations across the world of culture & to connect with people who share our taste.” Practically speaking, it’s like Pinterest for music, with beads instead of boards & collections of related audio & video Content instead of pictures.
There’s always been some form of this kind of thing going on every since the Internet allowed for the creation of virtual hangouts. People of similar tastes have been sharing & discussing what they like & want to see or do on forums & boards, blog rings & social network channels.
The way Milq works is that it structures crowdsourced curated Content into beads. You can post audio/video uploads to an existing bead, or create a new one in one of several categories such as music, Film & television, fashion, food & drink, comedy, sports, art & design, & ideas.
The beads are built to be free-flowing discussions with people trying to answer a question, like something you see on message boards or review sites such as Yelp.
For example, you have beads like “Best Albums of 2014 so far?” & “Favorite TV Commercials?” & so on. Each bead is a question, inviting you to join the discussion & throw in your two cents – in the form of videos.
You can follow beads that you find interesting, & you can also follow people whose activity & feed interest you. Posts you add can be content from YouTube, Vimeo & SoundCloud, so it’s just a question of sharing Content you like by adding it to a bead. You can further share your newly added post on a bead with your fans & followers on Twitter & Facebook.
Milq has its own ranking system, where posts are ranked based on factors such as the user’s popularity in that category.
