Amazon’s new solution Cognito takes care of app backend infrastructure

Amazon recently launched a solution called Cognito, riding on the AWS Cloud, which promises to take care of an app developer’s backend, while he/she goes about building an app. No longer is the app developer required to know any backend code, this solution takes care of all that.

Amazon Cognito makes it easy to save user data, such as app preferences or game state, in the AWS Cloud without writing any code or managing any infrastructure. Developers can save data locally on users’ devices allowing applications to work even when the devices are offline.

amazoncognitoDevelopers can also synchronize data across a user’s devices so that their app experience will be consistent regardless of the device they use. With Amazon’s new solution, developers can manage the complexity of conflict resolution and intermittent network connectivity so that their app can always deliver a great user experience. Eevery data set in the Amazon Cognito sync store can be synchronized on all devices associated with an identity by making a single API call. Devices can also be notified of changes to the sync store with silent push notifications.

Pricing

Use of Amazon Cognito is on ‘pay as you go’ basis, with no upfront costs. You pay only for what you use. Charges are based on the total amount of data saved in the Amazon Cognito sync store & the number of sync operations performed.

Authenticating users & generating unique identifiers is always free with Amazon Cognito. As part of the AWS Free Usage Tier, eligible AWS customers receive 10 GB of Cloud sync store & 1,000,000 sync operations per month for the first 12 months. Outside the Free Usage Tier, Amazon Cognito costs $0.15 for each 10,000 sync operations & US $0.15 per GB of sync store per month.
