MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, May 7, 2014 /PRNewswire: Respect Network today announced that it will launch public registration for the world’s first global private cloud network on June 23 with events in London, San Francisco, Sydney, Tel Aviv and Berlin.

A network similar to the global banking or email networks, the Respect Network will empower individuals and businesses anywhere in the world to share private data as easily as they can on Google, Facebook and other cloud providers, but with the assurance that their privacy will always be respected — and that their personal data will never be sold or used in targeted advertising without their explicit permission.

respectpageThe Respect Network has been in development for over three years by leading Internet architects and 50 founding partner companies including SwissCom, Neustar and NEC. Respect Network CEO Drummond Reed explains that this is a revolution in Internet privacy because it takes a fundamentally different approach to ownership and use of information than existing networks and cloud providers.

“The Respect Network is the only global data sharing network engineered from the ground up by what is called Privacy by Design. This can be distilled into three main points of difference — all members own and control their own data in their own personal or business clouds; all sharing is over direct peer-to-peer connections under a standard legal framework to guarantee privacy; and the network is paid for directly by members rather than by advertising or data brokering.”

Doc Searls, author of “The Intention Economy: When Customers Take Charge” and keynote speaker at the launch events, says this brave new world of the individual controlling the use of their own data will transform our experience of the Internet.

“The Respect Network heralds the beginning of the privacy revolution in information sharing and cloud computing by putting control back in the hands of people — this is the first time individuals have the choice of not only where they store their information, but crucially, how.”

The planned activities across the five cities include launch events with a keynote address by Doc Searls, immersion days with various sessions led by Respect Network CEO Drummond Reed, Chief Security & Privacy Architect Daniel Blum, Ctrl-Shift CEO Liz Brandt, Neustar CTO Mark Bregman, Meeco CEO Katryna Dow, SocialSafe Chairman Julian Ranger, fintech thought leader Peter Vander Auwera and other noted speakers. The immersion day will also feature a ‘hackathon’ led by Respect Network Lead Developer Markus Sabadello with CTO Andy Dale.
