SAO PAULO, May 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Level 3 Communications Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) today announced it is supporting Riot Games, the U.S.-based developer of League of Legends, with a data center and Internet connection contract that provides hosting for the popular online multiplayer game at Level 3’s Premier Elite data center in Sao Paulo. League of Legends is the most played free computer game in the world.1 Currently, the game has more than 70 million registered players, of which 32 million are active users.

After the launch of League of Legends in Brazil in August 2012, players were connected to a server in Miami, Florida. The proximity of the new Level 3 server to Brazilian users decreases network latency, which is the time it takes the information to go back and forth.

“The Level 3-hosted Brazilian server will provide an even better gaming experience to the Brazilian community because it will offer greater reliability and more secure performance,” said Paulo Fernandes, CEO at Riot Games. “This will help us in our efforts toward offering our players the best experience possible.”

“Level 3 is committed to providing its technologies to the video games market, for which demand is increasingly growing,” said Marcos Malfatti, senior vice president of Sales at Level 3 Brazil. “We are very pleased to be partnering and supporting the growth of Riot Games in the country, offering data center service flexibility and availability.”

Many leading entertainment and media companies rely on the Level 3 network to deliver content to audiences worldwide. The company’s services are engineered to deliver seamless, high-quality online content to end-users, allowing video game developers and publishers to spend more time designing and developing the best games possible and less time thinking about how to deliver them online.
