It’s official. Outlook.com will replace Hotmail: Microsoft

Software giant Microsoft has announced that its new, free Web-based email service, Outlook.com, will leave its preview version & begin replacing Hotmail.

A blog post on Outlook blog said the revamped Outlook.com launched six months ago had got an overhwelming response with as many as 60 million making the switch during this period. Microsoft’s Director, Product Management Dharmesh Mehta, too, was quoted in an Online interview as saying hundreds of millions of Hotmail users will be switched to Outlook by this summer.

The post further said Outlook.com’s tools will include handling newsletters & commercial mail, which make up as much as 80% of the typical inbox. Outlook.com comes with Sweep, a simple feature that helps people clear out their inbox by moving, archiving, or deleting specific email.
