Design. It’s the key to almost everything we do in our lives, real or virtual. Each design, be it for a site or a product, needs to be fully tested before its release. The best time obviously to do this is when the Site or the product is in its early stage.
One way of testing the design is to ask people close to you – friends & relatives – to take it for a spin & then give you feedback. But this class of users can have their judgement clouded due to their proximity to you. What you need is what is also known as remote usability testing; which is to study the behavior & requirements of the users. This will help you understand:
* What users are doing in order to achieve a specific goal
* Where do they begin searching for information
* Were they able to correctly and effortlessly navigate around your product
* Why did they do it in that particular way
In this way, you will get to know the honest opinion of potential users, who, hopefully, will also become your site’s or product’s actual users one day.
Of course, as a site owner, you also need to get proper, easy-to-understand feeback for the analysis after the completion of the remote test. That’s the second part of remote testing.
