At News Meme users take their favorite internet content and create memes based upon it. Readers of News Meme click on other memes to see what internet content inspired it. Other than creating memes from internet content, users vote on them, and share them on social media.
“It’s a new way to push traffic around,” says Tom Howard, founder of Callitics. “It’s fun. Our first app was too serious. We’re taking what we learned from last year to try a few new projects.”
Callitics launched its smartphone app for political organizations last year to little fanfare. The app allows anyone to become their own political action committee. The Callitics software creates viral phone campaigns to targeted officials on any public issue. The app can focus on federal or state legislatures and even allows users to target specific offices. Users are matched to their elected officials by geolocation and share the calls on social media to achieve their legislative goals.
“Everybody we talk to loves the idea,” says Callitics founder, Henry Getz. “We learned a lot about how people approach and perceive apps. We think News Meme shows our maturing in that respect.”
News Meme is not an app, just a responsive and dynamic mobile website where users create, vote and share internet content through memes.
“It’s super awesome when I get my copy of News Meme. I scroll through the top news stories of the day but it’s filtered by memes,” says Howard. “I also meme internet content that I love and share it with friends. It’s like bookmarking with memes.”
What else does 2015 hold for Callitics?
“Change,” says Getz. The company reports it is in the process of revamping Callitics with a new name, and changing the name of the company to match its growing offerings.
