Block websites that track your Online activity with Disconnect

Ever wondered how, when you have just finished searching the Internet for a particular product or service, ads, flyers or emails related to the same land up in your browser or email? That’s no magic. It’s simply because there are websites out there tracking your every move on the Web. But now, you can block websites that track your Online activity with this startup called Disconnect.

Disconnect comes in various forms – as a browser extension or as an App. There’s an Apple iOS app, too, to protect kiddies’ privacy. Disconnect shuts down ad-trackers, social widgets, & other such elements that snoop before the web page or site you ordered, downloads. This also results in as much as 27% faster load time, claims Disconnect.

Once you have downloaded the Disconnect browser extension, there’s a toolbar button that lives at the top of your browser & shows you the total number of tracking requests on every page you go to. The color Green means all the requests on a page are blocked. Gray means some are unblocked. You need to click the button to see & block or unblock the requests.

Block websites that track your online activityTo block websites that track your Online activity is a must if you care for your privacy. Not only does this startup keep your data safe from 3rd parties, Disconnect also encrypts your traffic over Wi-Fi. It also categorises the types of tracking elements like Advertising, etc so you, the user can differentiate between harmless analytics tools, social networks, & such stuff. So, you retain the right to block whatever you choose.

What also got us mightily tickled is the manner in which Disconnect is raising revenue. It has a “Pay What You Want” option, which means you decide what you wanna pay for using it – from US $100 to well, as low as you can go. Users get to even decide what percentage of that fee they would like to give to Disconnect & how much to of it to give to charity. You may still download the app for free, but after installing, a new tab opens asking you to donate to the cause.
