Lookup messaging app for local shopping lets consumers chat with shops

new chat appLookup is a free messaging app that allows consumers to send messages about their shopping needs to local shops & businesses & get back an instant reply.

Obviously, it only works when the business or shop in question is a participating merchant using the app.

This calls for a managed rollout, so the Lookup messaging app is being launched with participating merchants in Bangalore, as a start.

It’s not hard to see the appeal of a messaging app for local shopping, as long they can get shops & businesses to hop on board. It eliminates the last remaining online-to-offline jump & makes it entirely eCommerce.

Instead of finding a business using search & then calling them up via telephone, the app allows you to message your query or interest in a product or service & hopefully get back an instant response.

You can make use the app to make reservations at bars, pubs, hotels, restaurants & more. You can likewise book spa, salon, hospital or clinic & other such appointments.

You can get information about prices, product availability, deals, timing of brick & mortar stores, etc.

You can even share a picture & get back an answer. For example, you could send a scan of a medical prescription to a pharmacy & ask if they have the medicines, how long they’re open &/or whether they can deliver to your place.

As a business, you can be available as a verified business on Lookup by using the “Claim your business” option in the app’s Settings menu.

Lookup is currently available as an Android app for Bengaluru (Bangalore). Hatchery Software, the company that developed the app, expects to expand to other cities soon.

The Bangalore-based Hatchery Software Pvt. Ltd was founded in 2014 by Deepak Ravindran. The company has received funding from Infosys founder Kris Gopalakrishnan.

Scope photo discovery & event streaming app connects you to world events

streaming appScope is a photo discovery & event streaming app that lets you explore & see photos uploaded from a specific location. You can filter by country, city or venue.

The app plugs Google Earth & Instagram together with ‘Live’ event streaming & other features to make it easier to upload & see location-specific multimedia.

Scope was developed & launched by Pantoscope Media. The company’s founder Yanqing Wang explains how it works: Let’s say you’re throwing a grand opening at your new restaurant. Simply create the event in Scope and set the location and radius. Photos taken by guests at your event will automatically be uploaded to your Scope album. It’s a simple feature but it’s the first of its kind. Scope is a game changer in event planning and photo curation.

You can also use Scope simply by zooming in on a specific location on the map to see the latest photos at that location, or those taken at a specific time/date in the past. You can explore live events happening near you, & jump from one show to the next. The app lets you bookmark upcoming events you are interested in, & highlights specific photos from past events.

You can plan your own party by creating a geofenced event in the app. You can host shared events to which all your guests can contribute.

Another key feature is that Scope’s capture mode allows you to take & share pictures seamlessly without any interruptions. With batch upload, you can upload a whole batch in the time it takes for you to share a single photo.

Burnaby, BC, Canada-based Pantoscope Media was founded in 2013 by Yanqing Wang.

The Scope iOS app for photo discovery & event streaming was launched in Sept 2014. They are currently working on the Android version, & expect to launch it soon.
