OkHello: Group video chat for free

Video calling or video chats are great services to see & talk to a loved one or a colleague who is thousands of miles away. OkHello is an addition to the domain of video calling apps, rubbing shoulders with players like Skype, Viber & WeChat.

free video appCalling through OkHello is free of cost & requires a few steps to sign up to the service. With a few deft touches one can easily access video calls. The UI is simple & attractive. One important feature of OkHello is ‘Group Video Chats’, where multiple users can chat at the same time & the user can see all the other users. The users can also text & video chat simultaneously. And with the addition of stickers, the text chat can turn into a fun experience. Users can also turn a video call into a plain Jane audio conversation by just taking the phone to the ear.

The Sign-up process is simple, & users can connect through their social media accounts. The app will then automatically search for contacts who are already using this app & will add them to the user’s friends/contacts list.

The user then can create ‘Rooms’ where he/she can invite or add people from this list for a group video chat. User can also share photos, videos & location to the people who are in the group.

There are some features missing from this app like the multiplatform access & the ability to call to regular national & international phone numbers.

….and now, a mobile video chat app

Windsor, Canada-based WeCam Inc. announced the launch of the WeCam mobile video chat app that helps you discover & connect with like-minded people anywhere in the world.

They’re calling it a mobile video chat app, but WeCam is more of a matchmaker service that lets you find & hook up with people whom you’d like to meet. The socially-integrated WebRTC mobile video chat app makes use of Facebook, Twitter & Google+ along with a patent-pending matching algoritm to find people on social networks who match your own profile.

wecampageIt also has a geo-location feature that filters down the possible matches to those who are located nearby, so you can connect with the right people in the right place. You can do the search yourself too, sorting by interests, age, gender, interests or location. You can let others discover you as a person with common interests & activities by adding tags to your profile – gaming, SXSW, surfing, the big bang theory, & so on.

Since it’s already making use of social networks, it’s no surprise that friends of friends are put forward as people you’d like to meet.

WeCam Inc. President & CEO, Rob Whent unveiled the app at the MacWorld conference in San Francisco, USA recently. Whent said WeCam was established to be a leader in the space of mobile video calling & communications using WebRTC. He said the choice to utilize WebRTC & the OpenTok platform has proven to be invaluable.

The app is free to download & use, & is available for both Android-powered devices as for iOS devices. The free version is ad-supported, but a $0.99 in-app purchase will make it ad-free.

WeCam Inc. was founded in 2013, & has offices in Windsor & Toronto.
