Delete files on your computer remotely using SugarSync

The California, USA based company SugarSync is a service that helps you sync your Online life. It essentially allows users to sync files, folders & everything in between, between their various computing devices. To start off, you need to download a piece of software on your computer & mobile devices. Once this is done, you can then access all your files from any computer or mobile device, sync your stuff across all your devices, and share large files with your friends.

Last week, these guys made a new announcement. They have added a feature called Remote Wipe for individual users that allows the latter to delete all synchronized files from a PC or Mac in the event of loss or theft, and then re-install the same on a new machine.

sugarsyncYup. An announcement on the SugarSync website said Remote Wipe helped users safeguard the important information they store, sync and share using SugarSync, in a way that nobody else can have access to it.

If you were to say lose your laptop, no need to panic. You can use Remote Wipe to remove all your files & folders on the machine by logging into the SugarSync web application from another computer. All files will automatically be removed the next time the computer connects to SugarSync’s servers, & a notification will let him know when data has been cleared. Also, because the user’s data is still backed up to the cloud, he can easily retrieve it later using another device.

Remote Wipe was available for enterprises but from last week, it is there for individual, though paid users of SugarSync.

Of course, you may use SugarSync for its other features too – Cloud storage, sharing Online & also backing up your important files in the Cloud.
