John McAfee’s D-Vasive app lets you know which apps are spying on you

dvasiveJohn McAfee of the McAfee anti-virus fame has released a mobile app that alerts you to any apps on your device that is surreptitiously sending out your personal details or spying on you. Called the D-Vasive Anti Spy, this is claimed to be the “1st Antispy app” that will help protect your privacy from these invasive apps by alerting you if an application is trying to spy on you, using your phone’s camera, microphone, Bluetooth or Wi  Fi connections.

What John McAfee claims is that the D-Vasive Anti Spy is not your typical anti-spyware. The typical anti-spyware relies on a database of known definitions & then scans every single file on your phone to compare with. This does not offer real protection as there are viruses and spyware being created everyday. So, a recently made virus or spyware will be unknown to the database, bypassing your typical anti-spyware software and able to access your system.

D-Vasive Anti Spy, on the other hand, offers a layer of protection that is in your control. This new app allows you complete control in managing your mobile devices internal hardware. So that way, when a potential malicious app tries to open your Camera, Mic, Bluetooth or WiFi and spy on you, D-Vasive Anti Spy lets you know, and lets you completely lock them down.

The D-Vasive Anti Spy app is a follow-up to the earlier launched DCentral 1 app McAfee had released late last year. DCentral 1 was focused on clearly indicating which apps have what type of permissions. D-Vasive, on the other hand, takes 1 step more – it routinely scans for apps which have accessed things they shouldn’t have.

There are 2 versions of this Android app – free & premium.

Here are some of the additional features of the Pro version:

• Secure Camera
• Secure Microphone
• Secure Bluetooth
• Secure WiFi
• Pause detection alerts
• Increased amount of logs
• Precise dial control
• Silent alert mode

Anti-virus pioneer John McAfee launches Online complaint Site BrownList

online complaint

Remember John McAfee of the popular antivirus software by the same name? The multi-millionaire got on the wrong side of the law when he was wanted for questioning in Belize in 2012 regarding the murder of a neighbor, & since then, has frequently made the headlines for his various eccentricities, too.

John made a surprise visit of Def Con, the world’s largest conference of computer hackers held in the US last week, where he announced he had launched a Website called BrownList, positioning it as a crowdsourcing solutions to ordinary people’s problems.

The Website’s motto is – It’s payback time. Essentially, the idea is to give an outlet to people who have complaints to post their problems here, rather than just “rave & rant”about it. When you post a complaint on BrownList, you need to also post a likely solution with it. Other users can also post solutions, which are then voted on by Site members to determine the best course of action. After a member has posted a complaint, BrownList will contact the entity about against whom the complaint hasbeen filed, whenever possible, with a request for its reponse. There’s complete anonymity on part of the member filing the complaint.

BrownList’s (www.brownlist.com) stated mission is to give people a voice & help them find solutions. “We aim to make the world more proactive and transparent,” is what the Site says.

While the platform is free to use by members, there’s also a subscription plan available for corporates or any entity. These are said to be cost-effective & affordable for different types of entities, including non-profit & charitable institutions, as part of BrownList’s mission to help the world become more transparent, fair, proactive, & solution-oriented. These subscribers can respond to any complaint but if it is not a subscriber, the response will not be featured in the official response section. BrownList subscribers also do not have the ability to block or delete any complaints against them.

So why subscribe to BrownList?

Subscriptions allow entities to immediately receive a notification when any complaint is registered about them on BrownList. Entities then have 24 hours to post a response to the complaint, which will be featured on the Site along with the complaint. In this way, users will see that the entity is pro-active in responding to issues. This lessens the chance of the complaint going viral. Subscriptions are set at a rate such that it is highly cost-effective for entities to subscribe & avoid higher costs later for damage control.
