Surf the Web anonymously with ASProxy

Surfing web anonymously

With increasing concerns on Online privacy, more & more startups are coming up with ways & means of surfing the Net anonymously. Though ASProxy cannot be strictly labeled as a startup, it’s been around for a while, this free & open-source Web proxy allows users to surf the Net without leaving any trace behind.

When using ASProxy, not only is your identity hidden but you will be able to escape filters & firewalls from an Internet connection. In most cases your job, school, or even your country may prevent you from accessing your favorite Websites. ASProxy claims it can allow users to circumvent this. “The purpose of ASProxy is spreading freedom on the Net, but this proxy can be used for any purposes. ASProxy is not responsible for your activities,” says this disclaimer on its Website.

A Web Proxy, by the way, is a service which allows the user to surf the Net anonymously. When using a Web proxy, not only is your identity hidden but you will be able to get around almost all filters & firewalls. In technical terms, browsing the Web via a web proxy protects you by allowing the host machine (proxy server) to represent you on the net.

ASProxy recently released version 5.5, which includes lots of bugfixes in parsers & javascript dynamic encoder. It also introduces autoupdate & manual update for plugins and providers.

New features with version 5.5:

Plugin support. Customize ASProxy easily.
Extension support. Write your own engine for ASProxy.
Administration UI. Config your ASProxy easily from everywhere.
Easier mulitlanguage support.
Image compressor. Reduce bandwidth usage.

Here’s how it works:

The users must enter the Site on which ASProxy is installed. The URL is entered in a text box provided and the request is sent correctly depending on how much the Site has been popular & recognized by the filtering system. The ASProxy engine receives the URL & processes the request. After several-stage processes, the whole addresses of the requested page are converted & sent to the ASProxy-installed site. The result: the Site will not be detected as an anti-filtering one & it will not be blocked.

Here’s a new way of surfing the Web anonymously

anonymous network

So you don’t want the authorities to know what exactly are you looking for on the Internet? There are thousands of proxy server services available which allow you to mask your IP address. Helps when you live in a country which is not exactly known for its “citizen-friendly” policies, right?

The Tor Project comes to mind when we talk of the Internet & anonymity of a user. Now, there’s Luminati, claiming to be the world’s largest anonymity network & even better than Tor. You can use this new network to route your data through any of its millions of IPs located in every city around the world except North Korea.

Luminati’s anonymity network is a peer to peer network through which consumers can browse the Web anonymously by routing their requests through other Luminati users. The Luminati network has grown to millions of nodes, & is growing larger with every passing day.

Integrating Luminati in to your system is simple — route your HTTP, HTTPS or ALS requests to any one of Luminati’s “Super Proxies”, & it will route it through our millions of end nodes. You can insert headers in to these requests that will tell the “Super Proxy” the country to route through.

Some of its features:

  • Real anonymity – the proxies in the Luminati network are regular PCs, laptops and phones, & thus are not identified as proxies or as Tor network nodes
  • Super scalable – Scale up to millions of IPs & back down to a few without costs or re-configuration
  • Super speed – Much faster than Tor (similar in speed to regular Internet)
  • Highly secure – VPN connection from your Super-Proxy to any of millions of nodes ‘in the wild’ reduce the risk of man-in-the-middle attacks, snooping, or control of end nodes (as may be the case in Tor)
  • Highly accurate – Sites that identify you as a proxy may provide you with misleading information.
  • Luminati’s Network is comprised of real devices, not proxies & not Tor end points
  • No overhead – No need to employ staff for managing proxies
  • Simple – Set the Super-Proxy as your crawler’s proxy, and go
  • Proxies in every city – Reroute through any city in the world
  • Supported protocols – Supports HTTP, HTTPS & TLS

But being anonymous on the Web, at least using this service, is not free. Though the Wesite does not mention the rates, Luminati does provide 1st time users a free 7-day trial of the system. Also, users have to pay only for the traffic they route through Luminati, regardless of how many different IPs they use.
