New messaging app CatchChat’s boast: Fastest IM experience on the planet

CatchChat is a new messaging app that allows you to easily take & share selfies, pictures & videos with your contacts.

Just one more new messaging app, you say? That’s true, but CatchChat claims to offer the “fastest IM experience on this planet.” Perhaps, worth a look?

The speed isn’t about some revolutionary smartphone technology. It’s just a very simple way of taking & sharing selfies, other images & video, & adding an overlay of text & emoticons, if you so desire.

new messaging appThis new messaging app offers just a single shutter button. One tap for a photo & a tap & hold for a video. A ‘+’ icon lets you choose which of your contacts the photo or video should go to.

In other words, give a tap on a friend’s avatar & your friend will be able to see you or what you are seeing. If you want, you can also create groups of contacts & tap to show your cool selfie to the whole group.

You can additionally add an overlay of text & emoticons on the photo, if you want to add a caption or a message.

That’s about all it does. There’s no social sharing, photo editing or other tools or any other bells & whistles. That’s a bit odd for a photo & video sharing app, but the lack of a link to the social networks is what makes CatchChat a messaging app as opposed to a social networking app.

The developer willingly & happily admits on their home page that the CatchChat messaging app is inspired by TapTalk, which was launched earlier this year & is itself based on SnapChat.

CatchChat is a Chinese startup, with the developer based in Canton. The app is available in both Chinese & English, but the Website is entirely in English (other than the title which switches to English for international visitors).

You can download the Android app directly from the developer’s website here.
