Dropbox: finally accessible in Mainland China

dropboxforbusinessIn May 2010, Cloud storage service Dropbox had confirmed that it was being blocked by the Chinese Government, as the latter suspected that some sensitive national information was being shared over the Cloud file sharing service. But of late, it seems the Chinese Govt has relented.

Dropbox is now available for use in China. A report in Tech in Asia, which noted this development, however, could not confirm the exact date of the Cloud service being unlocked. Incidentally, rival Google Drive was still struggling behind security firewalls in China since 2012, after its launch.

According to Tech in Asia, Dropbox services like Cloud syncing & public file sharing were working efficiently & faster in the country.

Chinese tech community & other users in the country have several native Cloud-based service providers, which are much faster & provide a storage space up to 10 terabytes for file sharing. The leading Cloud based service giants in the country are Baidu’s WangPan to Tencent’s WeiYun.
