Unified Inbox – a game-changer service in the world of information overload

unifiedinboxThis service could turn out to be game-changer in the world of the Internet. Unified Inbox is a Cloud-based social communication & collaboration platform that integrates all your digital conversations & social engagements into one independent platform that can be accessed across all devices.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re sending or reading emails in your Outlook or Gmail accounts on your desktop, collaborating with an internal team using your Tablet or DropBox Cloud storage, or engaging your friends & followers on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, WeChat or WhatsApp on your smartphone, or just exchanging SMS messages – all of it can become be part of your Unified Inbox if you so wish so.

The bottomline is that Unified Inbox can connect to any Cloud-based service providing an API for developers.

The need for this service, or the pain point it provides a solution for, is that executives spend a lot of time these days communicating with others outside the company & also on internal communications with team members. If this constant flow of communication across multiple devices & mediums is not properly managed & filtered, it becomes information overload & can end up eating up a big chunk of the workday.

After taking about 3 years to develop the core social communication & collaboration platform, the company is now quickly ramping it up to add sensational features through strategic acquisitions.

The most recent one is the acquisition of Boston-based Smak (secure messaging alerting & knowledge), which applies so-called ‘LifeModes’ to help professionals prioritize & sort through incoming information from emails & social media postings.

The idea is that people will want to give priority to incoming messages that fall into the ;’LifeMode’ they are in at that moment. This can be “work,” “home,” “holiday” & other such modes, with Unified Inbox acting as a kind of personal assistant who filters & screens messages based on the boss’ mode at that particular moment.

The basic Unified Inbox app is available for free download on the App Store, but it’s still in a closed beta so you’ll need an invite. They plan to open it up with a global launch scheduled for 2015. This Singapore-based startup is also working on premium services including the Outbox Pro & the Unified Pro. The latter enables your team to collaborate on incoming & outgoing communications.

Unified Inbox Pte Ltd was originally set up in New Zealand in 2008 but as the company Founder & CEO Toby Ruckert has explained elsewhere, it shifted to Singapore in 2014 for “strategic reasons.”
