Wiper: an app that allows you to “wipe” off your messages

You have heard of apps like SnapChat where images vanish after 2 minutes or so. There’s a new app now where messages can be similarly wiped off, thus preserving your Online privacy.

Using the Wiper messaging app, all that a user needs to do is to tap “Wipe” & his message is erased instantly, everywhere. Wiper uses patent-pending technology to wipe all sides of a conversation—your phone and your friend’s, as well as any temporary record kept on Wiper servers. Other apps control how long your messages exist. With Wiper, the user gets to decide.

Come to think of it, there’s been a flood of these communication apps & tools recently, all offering completely secure & encrypted calling (Blackphone from Silent Circle) & messaging (Telegram, Wickr, etc.).

Telegram got millions of users after WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook, in part because users jumped ship over privacy concerns. Blackphone is being touted as a revolution in mobile technology because it provides encrypted security for voice, video & text communications.

Wickr offers an encrypted messaging app that allows users to send messages that self-destruct after a set period. The company raised $30 million in Series B funding last month.

secure messagingThe fact that Wiper is now able to follow so soon after this with US $2.5 million in seed funding shows the huge potential & demand in the secure messaging app business.

Like Wickr, Wiper will also let you decide when to destroy messages at the recipient’s end. The app allows for free app-to-app calling anywhere in the world, which isn’t so novel anywhere. All calls & messages are secured & private with end-to-end encryption.

The thing that is “different” about this new app is that you can just tap “Wipe” on your phone to erase text messages & photos from everywhere, recipient’s et all. The app will even tell you if the person at the other end has taken a screenshot or forwarded a photo or video, which is another unique safety feature.

Wiper Inc. was co-founded in Feb 2014 by Alex Hoffman, Manlio Carrelli & Michael Choupak. Carrelli is the company’s CEO, & Hoffman is the VP for Product & Engineering.

Mustbin iOS app: Data storage & secure messaging service with end-to-end encryption

Capture, share, keep safe. These words describe this new iOS7 app ‘Mustbin’. The app lets you capture (using the cellphone camera), store & securely share important data, documents, images, videos, & everything in between. A recent update includes a secure & end-to-end encrypted messaging service, too.

The Mustbin messaging service, part of the app called Secure Messages, will securely & safely encrypt all your SMS & instant messages to other Mustbin users. These chaps claim it is equivalent to military-style encryption. Because it has end-to-end encryption, only the sender & recipient are able to see the messages.

Another new feature in the app is called Bin Sharing, which offers you a totally secure way to share photos & documents.

The core functionality of the app already allows users to create their personal Cloud with bins to categorize & store all captured data. For instance, you could have 1 bin for photos, another one for important documents such as credit cards, bank account information, social security number, etc.

The Bin Sharing feature additionally allows you to share the data or documents you have stored in these bins without actually having to send the recipient the data through electronic communication. All you have to do is select the bin you want to share & tap the people on your contact list with whom the bin is to be shared, & that’s it.

It’s an easy, fast & secure way to share & receive important data &/or photos with a private & small group of people.

Satyender Mahajan, Mustbin’s Chief Technology Officer has gone on record to say that Mustbin users are going to love using Secure Messages & Bin Sharing, knowing that every message they send & document & photo they share is completely private & secure.”

The Boston, MA-based Mustbin Inc. was founded in Dec 2012 by Brian Shin, who is also the founder & CEO of Visible Measures.

Mustbin also announced that it had raised another US $1.5 million in venture funding. The company had raised $4.5 million in Series A funding in Nov 2013, & another $1.4 million through debt financing when it was launched in Dec 2012.
