New messaging app CatchChat’s boast: Fastest IM experience on the planet

CatchChat is a new messaging app that allows you to easily take & share selfies, pictures & videos with your contacts.

Just one more new messaging app, you say? That’s true, but CatchChat claims to offer the “fastest IM experience on this planet.” Perhaps, worth a look?

The speed isn’t about some revolutionary smartphone technology. It’s just a very simple way of taking & sharing selfies, other images & video, & adding an overlay of text & emoticons, if you so desire.

new messaging appThis new messaging app offers just a single shutter button. One tap for a photo & a tap & hold for a video. A ‘+’ icon lets you choose which of your contacts the photo or video should go to.

In other words, give a tap on a friend’s avatar & your friend will be able to see you or what you are seeing. If you want, you can also create groups of contacts & tap to show your cool selfie to the whole group.

You can additionally add an overlay of text & emoticons on the photo, if you want to add a caption or a message.

That’s about all it does. There’s no social sharing, photo editing or other tools or any other bells & whistles. That’s a bit odd for a photo & video sharing app, but the lack of a link to the social networks is what makes CatchChat a messaging app as opposed to a social networking app.

The developer willingly & happily admits on their home page that the CatchChat messaging app is inspired by TapTalk, which was launched earlier this year & is itself based on SnapChat.

CatchChat is a Chinese startup, with the developer based in Canton. The app is available in both Chinese & English, but the Website is entirely in English (other than the title which switches to English for international visitors).

Vemory photo app creates video memories from your camera & social media picture collections

vemoryVemory is a photo app for iOS & a social platform that pulls your favorite pictures from your camera & social media accounts to automatically create albums in the form of edited video montages.

There are a ton of photo apps floating around that fade away into the crush of similar apps a day after they’re launched, & it’s hard to break through the clutter.

But Vemory stands out because the technology allows it to intelligently “discover” pictures that come under the same grouping even if they are from multiple sources such as your camera roll, iCloud & social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr & Instagram.

Vemory will collect pictures based on time, location & their popularity on social media. Oh, & the video plays to background music & it also incorporates comments & likes from social media about the picture as the video is played.

The best part is that it takes no work on your part to create a video or edit it. Vemory makes use of these pictures by itself to create video memories or Vemories.

You just focus on the usual stuff – taking selfies & pictures of other things you like & splashing them all over social media so that you can share it with your friends. Every time you launch Vemory, there will be new video memories waiting for you to see & share.

It’s not enough that you share what your cat is doing all day in pictures. Now your friends have to bear the agony of going through it all over again as a video.

Vemory integrates with other social networks, & also has its own social sharing platform. Their home feed lets you follow other users & see their Vemories, & there’s also a trending page that lists the most popular ones marked public.

You can additionally search for posts & include them in a stream based on hashtags.

Of course, you can edit the Vemories to add your own personal touch. You can add or delete pictures & the social media comments that are included.

Vemory CEO Hunter Powell says that “Vemory looks through all your pictures and comments and builds an album from your last trip, honeymoon, birthday parties, dinner with friends or any other favorite memories. It’s not just building photo albums, its intelligently building your favorite memories from your favorite social apps and camera roll.”

The Austin, TX-based Vemory, Inc. was founded in 2012 by Hunter Powell & Trey Moore. Powell is the company’s CEO & Moore is the CTO. The company raised its first funding round earlier this year.
