Surf the Web anonymously with ASProxy

Surfing web anonymously

With increasing concerns on Online privacy, more & more startups are coming up with ways & means of surfing the Net anonymously. Though ASProxy cannot be strictly labeled as a startup, it’s been around for a while, this free & open-source Web proxy allows users to surf the Net without leaving any trace behind.

When using ASProxy, not only is your identity hidden but you will be able to escape filters & firewalls from an Internet connection. In most cases your job, school, or even your country may prevent you from accessing your favorite Websites. ASProxy claims it can allow users to circumvent this. “The purpose of ASProxy is spreading freedom on the Net, but this proxy can be used for any purposes. ASProxy is not responsible for your activities,” says this disclaimer on its Website.

A Web Proxy, by the way, is a service which allows the user to surf the Net anonymously. When using a Web proxy, not only is your identity hidden but you will be able to get around almost all filters & firewalls. In technical terms, browsing the Web via a web proxy protects you by allowing the host machine (proxy server) to represent you on the net.

ASProxy recently released version 5.5, which includes lots of bugfixes in parsers & javascript dynamic encoder. It also introduces autoupdate & manual update for plugins and providers.

New features with version 5.5:

Plugin support. Customize ASProxy easily.
Extension support. Write your own engine for ASProxy.
Administration UI. Config your ASProxy easily from everywhere.
Easier mulitlanguage support.
Image compressor. Reduce bandwidth usage.

Here’s how it works:

The users must enter the Site on which ASProxy is installed. The URL is entered in a text box provided and the request is sent correctly depending on how much the Site has been popular & recognized by the filtering system. The ASProxy engine receives the URL & processes the request. After several-stage processes, the whole addresses of the requested page are converted & sent to the ASProxy-installed site. The result: the Site will not be detected as an anti-filtering one & it will not be blocked.

Erase messages in real time with the Beam Messenger app

communication appBeam Messenger is a new messaging app that offers real-time communications. 2 people messaging each other using this app will be able to see what the other person is typing, letter by letter.

It’s supposed to make messaging more closely match the way we talk in person or through voice, where it’s a two-way conversation with interruptions. There may be merits to this approach as opposed to the string of back-&-forth messages that pile up in your usual text messaging or email thread.

But perhaps, it’s not something that everyone would want to do. You only hit ‘send’ after looking at the message you typed, deleting stuff you don’t need & maybe correcting things you typed wrong or what doesn’t sound right.

If the person at the other end sees this whole process, there’s no point in editing a typed message. You might as well just type what comes to mind & leave it at that.

But assuming there are people who do want this kind of ‘no-takebacks’ messaging system where they can beam in to interrupt the message coming in from the other side, Beam Messenger is now available for Android-powered devices as a beta version on Google play.

Of course, no-takebacks doesn’t mean you can’t go forward & back. When you’re texting inside the bubble, you’re allowed to backtrack or jump forward at will.

You can also delete the message. In fact, that may be one of the redeeming features in the app because you can talk to someone using the Beam Messenger app & then delete all the text, which automatically deletes it from the recipient’s phone too.

You can also create a profile on Beam, & the app allows you to further personalize your use of the app by adding your own wallpaper.

The app’s developer is Toronto, Canada-based Beam Propulsion Lab, founded in Jan 2014.
